Canada’s Félix Auger-Aliassime secures a spot in the ATP Finals as one of the qualifiers. The Montreal native’s qualification hinged on the outcome of the Hellenic Championship tennis final between Novak Djokovic of Serbia and Lorenzo Musetti of Italy, held last Saturday.
Djokovic, who had already secured a place in the eight-player tournament, clinched a hard-fought victory over Musetti, winning 4-6, 6-3, 7-5. This marked Djokovic’s 101st ATP title and a record-breaking 72nd title on hard courts. Despite his win, Djokovic announced his withdrawal from the ATP Finals in Turin, Italy, due to a shoulder injury.
Initially, Musetti needed a victory to qualify ahead of Auger-Aliassime, but with Djokovic stepping out, Musetti will now take his place at the event. The ATP Finals are scheduled to take place from Sunday until November 16.
The roster for the event includes Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz, Italy’s Jannik Sinner, Taylor Fritz and Ben Shelton from the United States, Alex de Minaur from Australia, and Alexander Zverev from Germany.
Auger-Aliassime is set to kick off his group-stage matches on Monday against Sinner, the current world number one. The two players recently faced off in the Paris Open final, with Sinner emerging victorious in a 6-4, 7-6 (4) showdown to reclaim the top ranking.
