A tragic incident occurred on the Trans-Canada Highway in central Newfoundland as two commercial transport trucks collided early Tuesday morning. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police reported that a 47-year-old man lost his life at the crash site near Gullbridge, commonly known as Gull Pond Bridge, located between Badger and South Brook.
Responding to the scene shortly after 2:15 a.m. NT, authorities found both vehicles engulfed in flames. The driver of the eastbound truck, aged 47, was pronounced dead on-site. The driver of the westbound tractor trailer sustained severe injuries and was rushed to the hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment.
Due to the police response, a section of the Trans-Canada Highway between Badger and South Brook was shut down for several hours. An investigation into the circumstances leading to the collision is ongoing.
