After a recent tally, Elections Quebec has declared David Tordjman as the winner of the mayoral election in Côte Saint-Luc, narrowly edging out longtime incumbent Mitchell Brownstein by a single vote. Tordjman garnered 4,196 votes, equivalent to 50.01%, while Brownstein secured 4,195 votes, representing 49.99%. The voter turnout stood at 36.9%, with 8,391 valid ballots cast and 229 rejected out of 23,359 registered voters.

Tordjman previously served as a city councillor for District 6 from 2017 to 2021 before losing his re-election bid in 2021. A civil engineer by profession, he currently holds the position of general manager at the Nunavik Investment Corporation. Additionally, Tordjman has been actively involved in infrastructure and development initiatives with First Nations communities and serves as the president of the Friendship Circle of Montreal, offering support to children and young adults with disabilities.

On the other hand, Brownstein, a lawyer, was initially elected to the city council in 1990 and assumed the role of mayor in 2016. Following the tight election results, Lawrence Bergman, who led Brownstein’s campaign, mentioned in a statement issued late Monday that Brownstein intends to request a recount. Bergman highlighted discrepancies in the vote count, noting that Brownstein was leading by 50 votes on Sunday evening but later lost 38 votes while Tordjman gained 13, which contradicted their calculations.

Regarding the recount process, an Elections Quebec spokesperson clarified that there is no automatic recount mechanism for close contests. However, candidates have the option to request a recount within four days of the election results being certified. Further statements from Brownstein’s team are expected to be withheld until the recount request is addressed.
