A mysterious figure emerges through a veil of smoke, ready to surprise everyone! The iconic theme song of the ’90s favorite, Darkwing Duck, proves true as Disney+ announces a revival of the beloved series, 35 years after its original debut.
The show’s new storyline presents Darkwing Duck trapped in an unfamiliar world oblivious to his superhero history. A spirited teenager named Duckie, well-versed in Darkwing’s heroic past, persuades the ego-driven vigilante to return to action.
Although the narrative is fresh, it was crafted in collaboration with Tad Stones, the creator of the original series. Notably, familiar characters from the original franchise are making a comeback, with renowned personalities lending their voices.
Mark Hamill will voice Drake Mallard, alias Darkwing Duck, the famed protector of St. Canard and the enigmatic avenger by night. The announcement of the reboot on Instagram sparked mixed reactions among fans, particularly those fond of the original voice actor, Jim Cummings.
Seth Rogen, a Canadian actor, will portray Darkwing’s scatterbrained companion, Launchpad McQuack, while Lizzy Caplan takes on the role of Gosalyn Mallard, Darkwing’s adopted daughter. Venezuelan American actor Lilimar Hernandez, known for her role in Inside Out 2, will play the character Duckie in the new series.
The original Darkwing Duck premiered on the Disney Channel in 1991, running for 91 episodes and gaining an Emmy nomination. The crime-fighting duck also made appearances in popular video games for Nintendo NES and Game Boy.
Point Grey Pictures, led by Seth Rogen, recently produced a special episode of The Muppet Show for Disney+ and will also produce the revived Darkwing Duck series. The production team at Point Grey embraced the show’s iconic catchphrase in their statement, expressing enthusiasm for the project.
