Black’s team, hailing from the local Halifax Curling Club, surprised Kerri Einarson with a 6-3 victory in the women’s semifinal, securing a spot in the final against Rachel Homan.
In the men’s semifinal, Matt Dunstone’s team from Winnipeg defeated Mike McEwen’s Saskatoon team with a score of 9-5. Dunstone will face the Calgary-based rink led by Brad Jacobs in the men’s final.
Black’s team broke a tie by scoring three crucial points in the ninth end, ultimately securing the win against Einarson. Einarson, a four-time national champion, struggled to generate offense throughout the game.
Despite a tough start in the round-robin phase, Black’s team managed to secure a spot in the playoffs with impressive performances. Black and her teammates showcased excellent form, with Black leading all players by throwing 90% overall. The victory sets up an exciting final between Black and Homan.
The best-of-three showdown will kick off at Scotiabank Centre on Friday. Black, who has received tremendous support from the home crowd, is looking to capitalize on the positive energy and secure a spot in the Winter Olympics. The partisan crowd of 6,856 cheered on Black’s team throughout the match, creating an electrifying atmosphere.
The women’s final games are scheduled for Friday and Saturday afternoon, while the men’s final games will take place in the evening on both days. If needed, decisive games will be played on Sunday, with the Winter Games set to commence on February 4.
