CBC has secured a significant role in Canadian curling through a new five-year broadcast agreement that will expand coverage of the Grand Slam of Curling playoffs and all Rock League games on its platforms. The agreement with The Curling Group, disclosed on Thursday, will result in over 300 hours of combined television coverage on CBC and Sportsnet during the 2026-27 season.
A notable development for CBC is its involvement with Rock League. The professional league, which debuted in April, will return to CBC in January 2027. Every match will be accessible on CBC television and CBC Gem, with selected games also airing on Radio-Canada’s ICI TOU.TV and Sportsnet on Thursdays and Fridays.
Rock League comprises six mixed-gender franchises with players from diverse backgrounds. Its upcoming season will feature events on specific weekends in January and April, with games scheduled from Thursday to Sunday.
Additionally, CBC will play a more prominent role in the Grand Slam of Curling. Sportsnet will continue as the primary broadcaster for all five Grand Slam events, commencing in October. The broadcast schedule includes three draws per day from Tuesday to Friday, followed by joint coverage with Sportsnet+ on Saturdays for the playoffs. The championship finals will be broadcast on Sundays by Sportsnet, with select finals also airing on CBC throughout the season. Morning round-robin draws and tiebreakers will be streamed on Rock Channel from Tuesday to Saturday.
The new agreement reinforces CBC’s extensive curling legacy and enhances its presence during major Canadian curling events. Chris Wilson, CBC’s executive director of sports and Olympics, expressed enthusiasm about sharing another season of Rock League with audiences nationwide.
The Curling Group views the agreements as pivotal in expanding the national viewership of both the Grand Slam and Rock League, with CEO and co-founder Nic Sulsky calling it a significant moment for the sport. Over the next five years, Canadian viewers can expect more ways to engage with curling, from Grand Slam playoff weekends to the upcoming second season of Rock League on CBC.
