A large Canadian vessel, the Rt. Hon. Paul J. Martin, is currently grounded in the Detroit River, situated between downtown Detroit and downtown Windsor. The ship, measuring 225 meters in length and bound for Quebec City, encountered difficulties in navigation as confirmed by a marine traffic monitoring system. The U.S. Coast Guard has acknowledged the situation, describing it as a “soft grounding” and ensuring continuous monitoring of the ship.

Fortunately, there have been no reports of injuries, pollution, or disruptions to marine traffic due to the incident. Despite the presence of a couple of tug boats near the stranded vessel, the U.S. Coast Guard has indicated that the rescue operation is on hold until Saturday morning due to poor visibility during the night. Plans to refloat the ship will be evaluated once visibility improves in the daylight hours.
