Canada’s journey in the FIFA U-17 World Cup came to an end in a heartbreaking manner on Friday as they fell to Ireland in a grueling penalty shootout that lasted 10 rounds during the round-of-32 clash. The Irish goalkeeper, Alex Noonan, made a crucial save to deny Canada’s Elijah Roche, securing a 9-8 victory in the shootout. Despite Canada’s late equalizer to force penalties, Ireland ultimately emerged victorious.

In the shootout, Noonan stopped Canada’s first penalty, while Canadian goalkeeper Jonathan Ransom denied an Irish attempt, keeping the game alive temporarily. The shootout continued until Noonan’s decisive save ended Canada’s hopes. Several Canadian players, including Marius Aiyenero, Sergei Kozlovskiy, and Van Parker, scored in the shootout, but it was not enough to overcome Ireland.

Canada’s equalizer came in the 85th minute when Kozlovskiy scored a brilliant goal with a right-footed volley from outside the penalty box. Although Canada had a chance to win in stoppage time, they were denied by the Irish goalkeeper. Ireland had taken the lead earlier in the 65th minute after a defensive error by Canada allowed them to score.

Canada’s impressive showing at the tournament came to an end, marking a significant improvement from their previous winless record in the competition. Ireland advanced to face Switzerland in the round of 16 after their victory, setting up an exciting clash in the next round. The FIFA U-17 World Cup continues with thrilling matches as teams fight for glory on the pitch.
