A farm in southwestern Ontario is offering visitors a unique way to relax and de-stress by immersing themselves in a bee-filled environment. Diana Graham, the owner of Bees and Bloom Wellness on a 28-hectare farm near Comber, has set up a therapy where clients can lie on beds with beehives underneath, separated by screens to ensure safety.

Although the therapy is claimed to reduce anxiety and stress, there is a lack of scientific evidence to support its effectiveness. Graham believes that the pheromones released by the bees can benefit the immune system, lungs, and overall mental health. Visitors have reported feeling calmer and more at ease after experiencing the therapy.

The therapy session takes place in a cabin filled with the scents of honey and beeswax, enhancing the wellness experience. Similar bee therapy centers exist across Canada, with visitors praising the relaxing effects of spending time among the bees.

Individuals who have tried the therapy at Graham’s farm have shared positive experiences, noting a significant reduction in anxiety levels. Sessions are available for one person, two people, or groups of four to six, with prices varying accordingly.

The concept of using bees for therapy originated in Ireland and has gained popularity in Europe and beyond. While anecdotal evidence suggests the therapy’s benefits, scientific research on bee bed therapy and its impact on mental health is limited.

In Turkey, researchers have explored the effects of bee bed therapy on anxiety levels, with preliminary results indicating a reduction in anxiety after exposure to bee buzzing sounds. The study highlights the potential of bee therapy in promoting relaxation and well-being.

Despite the lack of concrete scientific evidence, supporters of bee bed therapy believe in its healing properties and its ability to provide a unique and soothing experience for individuals seeking relaxation and stress relief.
