An upcoming expansion for the popular video game American Truck Simulator is set to feature iconic locations in British Columbia, including Coquihalla Summit, Mount Robson, Rogers Pass, Vancouver Island, and the Okanagan Valley.

Created by SCS Software in the Czech Republic, the game has gained a large online following, allowing players to experience the thrill of virtual truck driving.

“British Columbia is a dream destination for many travelers due to its stunning natural beauty and national parks,” said Daniel Nemec, head of marketing at SCS.

The expansion seamlessly integrates with the existing game world, with Washington State bordering British Columbia in the virtual realm.

Since its launch in 2016, the game has introduced several western U.S. states, such as California and Nevada. The British Columbia expansion marks the first map expansion outside the United States.

Nemec expressed surprise at the game’s widespread appeal, having sold over six million copies.

“It’s incredible to see the passion that so many people have for large vehicles and transportation.”

Jared Jensen, a retired long-haul truck driver with nearly 30 years of experience traversing Canada, the U.S., and northern Mexico, streams the game on his Twitch channel, Viking Hammer Gaming, from his home in Lethbridge, Alta.

Jensen emphasized the fun, camaraderie, and authenticity of his streams, aiming to showcase real-life trucking scenarios like obeying traffic laws and safety checks.

His streams provide viewers with insights into the life of a long-haul truck driver, drawing on his past experiences in British Columbia.

“As an owner-operator, I’ve always been meticulous about vehicle inspections and safety measures because lives are at risk,” Jensen stated.

The game offers players the chance to customize and drive trucks from licensed manufacturers like Peterbilt, Mack, Western Star, Kenworth, Freightliner, International, and Volvo.

Jensen’s personal connection to trucking, growing up on a ranch in southern Alberta and starting his trucking career at a young age, fuels his enthusiasm for the game.

He simulates the trucking experience with a wheel, pedals, clutch, and an 18-speed shifter to replicate real-world conditions as closely as possible.

“The simulator allows me to relive my journeys on the highways that I once traveled, making me feel right at home,” Jensen added.

Nemec mentioned that the expansion is a work in progress without a confirmed release date, and the showcased locations in the trailer may undergo changes.
