All 24 schoolgirls who were taken by armed individuals from a school in Kebbi, located in northwestern Nigeria, have been rescued, as announced by the country’s president on Tuesday. The abduction occurred on November 17, with initial reports indicating 25 students were taken. However, President Bola Tinubu confirmed that all 24 abducted students have been safely rescued without disclosing specific details about the operation.
Expressing relief over the recovery of all the girls, Tinubu emphasized the urgent need to increase security presence in vulnerable regions to prevent future kidnapping incidents. The attack in Kebbi is part of a series of recent mass abductions in Nigeria.
In a separate incident, assailants targeted a Catholic school in north-central Niger state last Friday, seizing over 300 students and staff. Fortunately, fifty students managed to escape over the weekend.
