Carlos Alcaraz’s dream of clinching the Davis Cup for Spain will have to wait another year. The top-seeded Alcaraz expressed disappointment as he pulled out of the Davis Cup Finals in Italy due to a hamstring injury. Doctors advised him against competing after diagnosing him with a right hamstring edema following his injury at the ATP Finals last week.
In a statement on X, Alcaraz conveyed his regret at missing out on representing Spain in the Davis Cup in Bologna. He revealed his muscular strain and swelling, preventing him from participating in the tournament. Alcaraz, who holds a 6-2 record in Davis Cup matches, emphasized his eagerness to contribute to Spain’s Davis Cup campaign.
Despite his setback, Alcaraz remains optimistic about his recovery, assuring reporters in a virtual meeting about his upcoming exhibition matches. The Spanish player, who debuted in the Davis Cup in 2022, aims to address his leg issue promptly through daily treatment and exercises.
Alcaraz, who secured the year-end No. 1 ranking, suffered a loss to Sinner in Turin. The 22-year-old had triumphed at the French Open and U.S. Open this year, adding to his six Grand Slam titles. While Alcaraz missed the 2023 Davis Cup due to fitness concerns, he remains determined to lead Spain to victory in the prestigious tournament in the future. Spain is set to face the No. 4-seeded Czech Republic in the Davis Cup quarterfinals, featuring top-20 players Jiri Lehecka and Jakub Mensik.
