Farage, the leader of the Reform UK party known for its anti-immigration stance and speculated as a potential future prime minister, had abruptly stepped down in July amid allegations of not reporting a significant financial gift of £5 million (or $9.3 million) from a foreign crypto billionaire.
To prove his continued voter support, Farage decided to contest the vacant seat and secured a resounding victory with 63% of the votes, while Binface secured the second position with approximately 27% of the votes. Despite the election witnessing a 44% turnout on the hottest day of the year, many major political parties opted out, viewing the campaign as a mere political maneuver by Farage.
Binface, a recurring candidate who has challenged various prime ministers in the past, emerged as the main contender among 34 candidates after major parties decided to boycott the race, considering it a publicity stunt orchestrated by Farage. Farage, who claimed victory early in the morning, abstained from the official declaration event, citing concerns of an alleged planned disruption of the results, as indicated by the police.
Binface’s unconventional campaign promises, including tax cuts for some and tax hikes for others, construction of a single affordable dwelling, and the nationalization of singer Adele, attracted attention. Despite Farage’s victory showcasing his strong support in the Clacton region of England’s east coast, his parliamentary seat may still be at risk due to a pending investigation by a parliamentary standards watchdog regarding an undisclosed donation he received in 2024 from a cryptocurrency tycoon based in Thailand.
Farage’s decision to resign and run again faced a setback as other political parties declined to participate, resulting in a crowded field dominated by independent and minor-party candidates, such as Howling Laud Hope of The Official Monster Raving Loony Party and Marcus White from the Everyone is God Party. Binface, known for his satirical approach to politics and portraying himself as an extraterrestrial being from Sigma IX, garnered significant attention during the election campaign.
