Quebec Liberal Party Leader, Pablo Rodriguez, has removed Marwah Rizqy from the party’s caucus. This decision follows Rizqy’s suspension two weeks ago due to a perceived “breach of trust.” Rodriguez stated that Rizqy’s actions of acting independently and disregarding team unity led to a breakdown in trust essential for collective progress.
Rizqy was suspended from the caucus and stripped of her position as parliamentary leader after unilaterally dismissing her chief of staff, Geneviève Hinse. Hinse previously worked as Rodriguez’s chief of staff during his time as Quebec lieutenant under Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s federal government and followed him into Quebec politics post his departure from Ottawa.
Rodriguez, in a subsequent news conference, announced the reinstatement of Hinse, citing no valid reason for her dismissal and Rizqy’s failure to provide an explanation. Rizqy, in a social media statement, accepted Rodriguez’s decision to expel her from the caucus, pledging to continue serving as an Independent MNA with unwavering dedication to her constituents.
Amidst this crisis within the party, Hinse accused Rizqy of unjustly firing her in a legal exchange of letters. Rizqy’s legal team contends that Hinse was terminated for ethical misconduct and insubordination, leading to a lawsuit from Hinse seeking $500,000 in damages.
Additionally, reports surfaced regarding alleged vote-buying schemes within the party, linking individuals to the manipulation of membership cards and financial incentives for supporting Rodriguez’s leadership bid. Rodriguez has committed to investigating these claims of electoral misconduct within the party.
