Montreal has officially welcomed Chilean soccer sensation Alexis Sánchez to CF Montreal, ending the long-standing speculation. The announcement by CF Montreal on Tuesday marked Sánchez’s designation as a key player, infusing a significant level of skill and experience into the team’s roster. This news, initially leaked by various media outlets like El Deportivo and The Athletic, has now been confirmed by the club.

Luca Saputo, CF Montreal’s senior director of recruitment and sporting methodology, emphasized the importance of Sánchez’s arrival in their sports plan, citing his exceptional technical abilities and extensive experience in top-tier football. With 51 international goals, Sánchez, at 37 years old, stands as Chile’s all-time leading goal scorer for their national team, La Roja.

The anticipation surrounding Sánchez’s transfer has sparked excitement among fans of CF Montreal and the player himself. Prior to the official announcement, a video shared by the club hinted at a significant transfer, with Saputo mentioning Sánchez’s preferred jersey number, 10. Sánchez will join Chilean goalkeeper Thomas Gillier at CF Montreal, having previously played for Sevilla FC during the 2025-26 season, where he netted four goals in 28 appearances.

Sánchez’s move to CF Montreal is in line with a growing trend of seasoned star players making their way to Major League Soccer (MLS) towards the latter stages of their careers. This transfer window has seen notable signings like Polish striker Robert Lewandowski to the Chicago Fire, French star Antoine Griezmann to Orlando City, and Brazil’s Casemiro joining Inter Miami alongside Lionel Messi.
