Is Canada prepared to explore the concept of blind love? If you’re single and curious, the opportunity to participate in the unique dating experience is approaching on Canadian soil.

Netflix revealed on Tuesday that the popular reality dating show “Love is Blind,” which has been a hit in the U.S., is making its way to Canada. For those unfamiliar with the show’s premise, here’s how it operates.

Participants enter “pods,” where they engage in conversations, flirtations, and dates without seeing each other. The goal is to form connections and potentially fall in love solely based on personality and emotions, without the influence of physical appearances.

Interestingly, couples sitting on opposite sides of a partition can become engaged without ever laying eyes on each other. Once engaged, they meet face to face, embark on a luxurious trip with potential matches to test their chemistry, move in together, meet each other’s families, and ultimately decide whether to say “I do” or part ways on their fast-tracked wedding day.

For those eager to take a shot at finding love in this unconventional way, casting for Canadians is now open. The spinoff was announced on Instagram by Netflix, prompting immediate interest from hopeful participants like Vancouver’s Fernanda Estrada De La Rosa, who expressed excitement about the show’s format offering a new dating experience in Canada.

The announcement coincides with the Canadian adaptation of several other reality shows. “Big Brother Canada” is set to return on CTV and Crave this summer, and “Canada Shore,” the Canadian version of “Jersey Shore,” recently wrapped up its second season in Kelowna, B.C.

According to pop culture critic Katherine Singh, Canada’s presence in the media landscape is growing, evidenced by successful shows like “Heated Rivalry” and the public interest in figures like former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his connection with Katy Perry. This cultural moment makes Canada a ripe environment for the introduction of shows like “Love is Blind.”

Canadian TV producer Sean De Vries, known for his work on “The Bachelor Canada,” believes the enthusiasm for “Love is Blind” makes it a logical choice for a Canadian spinoff. He emphasizes that authenticity is key to the success of dating shows.

Insight Productions, the production company behind “Big Brother Canada” and “Canada Shore,” is set to produce the Canadian version of “Love is Blind.” Erin Brock, co-chief content officer at Insight, is enthusiastic about bringing the show to Canada and working with a Canadian cast.

To qualify for the show, participants must be at least 19 years old at the time of application and a Canadian citizen or permanent resident as of January 2027. Since its inception, the U.S. version of “Love is Blind” has seen ten seasons and spawned spinoffs in various countries worldwide. The Canadian edition is currently seeking its host, with Vanessa and Nick Lachey hosting the U.S. version.
