Moe Boyle first met Irv Radatzke over two decades ago while working as a crossing guard for a school. Initially skeptical of his age, their friendship blossomed when Radatzke proved it by showing his driver’s license. Recently, Boyle marked Radatzke’s 100th birthday, which fell shortly after Remembrance Day, a significant occasion for the World War II veteran.

In light of Radatzke’s hospitalization following a fall, Boyle is rallying support to send him Christmas cards as a gesture of appreciation for his military and community contributions. The initiative has garnered widespread support, with well-wishers expressing gratitude for Radatzke’s service without his prompting.

Radatzke, well-known in New Westminster for his altruism, has always been ready to assist others without seeking anything in return. Described as exceptionally humble and kind, he has endeared himself to the community through his selfless deeds.

Greg Passey, a trauma psychiatrist and fellow veteran, highlighted the common trait of altruism among World War II veterans like Radatzke, emphasizing their inspirational impact on younger generations of service members. Passey and a group of veterans spent Remembrance Day with Radatzke, honoring fallen soldiers and saluting Radatzke for his enduring goodness.

Boyle’s plea for Christmas cards has resonated widely, with heartfelt messages already pouring in, including a touching note from the RCMP’s cybercrime unit in Toronto, underscoring Radatzke’s pivotal role in securing the freedoms enjoyed today.
