The 25-year-old mother from Thunderchild First Nation is presently incarcerated, facing charges of 2nd-degree murder related to the death of 28-year-old Tonio Cantell on November 5, 2025. She made an appearance at the North Battleford, Sask., provincial court on November 7, 2025, with the case adjourned until December.
During a phone interview from Pine Grove Correctional Centre near Prince Albert, she detailed the violent encounter that unfolded at a farmyard west of Turtleford where three men tragically lost their lives in a matter of minutes. Jimmy admitted to shooting Cantell but claimed it was a response to a violent situation where Cantell had fatally shot her fiancé, 46-year-old Dustin Roberts, and then turned the rifle towards her and Cantell’s girlfriend.
The police narrative remains limited regarding the farmyard incident. The RCMP released a statement two days after the events, stating they responded to a report of three injured individuals at a rural property northwest of Turtleford on November 5, with all three men succumbing to their injuries before paramedics arrived. The deceased were identified as Tonio Cantell, Madison Paddy-Jimmy was charged with second-degree murder, and two other victims, a 46-year-old man from Turtleford and a 30-year-old man from Big Island Lake Cree Territory, remain unnamed.
Jimmy clarified the events leading up to the fatal encounter, recounting the chaos that transpired at the farmyard. She and Cantell, known as “DoughBoii,” along with others, arrived at the farm where a series of confrontations ensued, culminating in the fatal shootings. Subsequently, Jimmy and Cantell’s girlfriend sought refuge and later turned themselves in at the RCMP detachment in Turtleford.
The family member of Jimmy, speaking to balance the public portrayal of the events, emphasized that Jimmy’s background does not align with assumptions made in the media, particularly concerning her association with gangs. They highlighted Jimmy’s positive attributes, including her upbringing, education, and lack of criminal history, underlining the surprising nature of the situation for the family.
Jimmy’s case is scheduled for further proceedings on December 18 in Lloydminster.
