Approximately 500,000 Canadians departed emergency departments without being seen by a doctor last year, as per data analysis. Susan Gordon, a 51-year-old from New Brunswick, left The Moncton Hospital’s emergency department after enduring hours of waiting due to intense stomach pains and repeated vomiting. Despite feeling severe discomfort, she left and later had to undergo appendicitis surgery after collapsing in September.
The trend of individuals leaving emergency departments before receiving medical attention has been escalating in recent years. In 2024, around half a million Canadians left without being attended to, with British Columbia and Quebec likely reporting higher numbers due to their reporting methods.
Horizon Health, responsible for managing the Moncton Hospital, acknowledged the issue and attributed the extended wait times to overcrowded hospitals with patients waiting for available beds. They emphasized their commitment to finding solutions under these challenging circumstances.
In a separate incident, Rogers clients expressed dissatisfaction with the customer service experience, reporting long wait times and complex procedures for resolving simple issues. Anil Sedha’s attempt to cancel his Rogers business internet service turned into a seven-hour ordeal due to difficulties with the customer support system.
The dominance of major providers like Rogers, Bell, and Telus in the industry has led to concerns about limited competition and service quality. Rogers faced criticism following recent call center layoffs, with customers questioning the impact of industry consolidation on service standards.
Moreover, insurance agents involved in facilitating luxury car exports to China are facing penalties for their role in the “grey market” activities. Several agents have been fined and had their licenses suspended for enabling the illicit export of high-end vehicles, exploiting flaws in the insurance system for financial gain.
