The Ontario Minor Hockey Association (OMHA) is currently investigating an altercation that took place between coaching staff during a U13 game in Lakeshore, Ont., on Sunday. The game involved the Riverside Rangers and Belle River Canadiens.
According to the OMHA, all bench staff from both teams have been suspended indefinitely pending a hearing. The association stated that such incidents have no place in minor hockey and do not align with its values.
A video posted on LiveBarn shows coaching staff gathering near one of the benches after the game, leading to a physical altercation with punches thrown in the presence of players.
The Belle River Canadiens acknowledged the incident on Facebook, expressing deep disappointment and emphasizing that the actions captured do not represent the values of their hockey organization.
Responding to inquiries, Riverside Minor Hockey Association President Anne Marie Schofield declined to comment due to the ongoing investigation. Lakeshore Mayor Tracey Bailey also expressed personal disappointment, stating that such behavior is not acceptable in the community, especially among adults who serve as role models for young athletes.
Bailey mentioned that a reminder about the facility’s code of conduct will be shared with user groups, and further actions may be taken based on the outcome of the OMHA investigation to ensure the safety of users, visitors, and staff at the facilities.
Despite the incident, Bailey highlighted that such altercations are not typical in minor hockey and hopes that the positive efforts of everyone involved in Lakeshore youth sports will not be overshadowed. The Riverside Rangers emerged victorious in the game with a 6-5 score.
