Police have pressed charges against a local man linked to the fatal crash in northwest London, Ont., that claimed the life of 62-year-old Dr. Agron Alija in late October. Andrew Clark, 43, residing in London, is facing one charge of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death and also for stunt driving during the incident on Oct. 21, as announced by the London Police Service on Tuesday.

Limited information has been disclosed by the authorities regarding the ongoing investigation, although they had appealed to the public for assistance, seeking witness testimonies, as well as dashcam and surveillance footage from the morning of the incident. The collision occurred just before 8:25 a.m. ET, prompting emergency response teams to rush to the scene of a head-on crash on Fanshawe Park Road near Pinnacle Parkway. Both Alija and Clark were swiftly transported to the hospital, where Alija was tragically pronounced dead, while Clark received treatment for severe injuries.

After Alija’s passing, an overwhelming show of support emerged in memory of the esteemed doctor. Various individuals, including patients and colleagues, expressed admiration for Alija, highlighting his dedication to the community and his unwavering commitment to those whose lives he touched. Renowned for his compassionate patient care as an emergency physician and family doctor, Alija was also recognized for his contributions to London’s Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry.

Alija, an immigrant with ties to London’s Albanian community, had previously served as a translator for human rights organizations during the Kosovo War. The authorities are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash that claimed Alija’s life and urge anyone with relevant information to come forward or anonymously share tips through Crime Stoppers.

According to police, the accused has been released from custody, with a court appearance scheduled for Dec. 22.
