Kelly McMichael emerged as a top achiever at MusicNL’s yearly awards ceremony on Saturday, clinching both Album of the Year and Alternative Artist of the Year accolades. Additionally, Deantha Edmunds, Nick Earle & The Reckless Hearts, XIA-3, and Quote the Raven each secured two awards.

Newfoundland and Labrador’s music community gathered in St. John’s over the past week for MusicNL week, engaging in networking, showcases, and presentations. MusicNL Executive Director Tamara Kater emphasized the significance of the awards for local artists, stating that being nominated alone is a testament to the artists’ hard work and achievements.

The event recognized various artists across multiple categories. Kelly McMichael’s “After The Sting Of It” won Album of the Year, while Kelly McMichael was named Alternative Artist of the Year. Other notable winners included Deantha Edmunds for Classical Artist of the Year, Mallory Johnson for Country Artist of the Year, and Andrew Gosse for Electronic Artist of the Year.

Industry Award Winners were also celebrated, with Hilda Cousins named Artist Manager of the Year, HeavyNFLD Fest honored as Event of the Year, and Andrew Boyd and Scott Sheppard recognized as Graphic Artists of the Year, among others. The Honorary Award Winners included Dave Panting for Lifetime Achievement, June Hiscock as Denis Parker Industry Builder, and Paul “Boomer” Stamp for Unsung Hero recognition.
