A simple elopement plan blossomed into a large wedding celebration for B.C. Ferries employees Jordyn Sankey, 23, and Leslie Fox, 41, on a vessel cruising along British Columbia’s northern coast. Their relationship began two years ago while working on the Northern Expedition, which serves various ports. Despite their initial dislike, they bonded over shared meals and coffee routines.
The couple’s wedding journey was filled with challenges as they struggled to plan a traditional ceremony due to the complexities of accommodating Sankey’s extensive family. Eventually, they opted for an intimate on-board ceremony in the Aurora lounge, organized by their supportive ferry crew.
The small wedding they envisioned quickly grew out of proportion as word spread among the 70-person crew, who eagerly joined the celebration. The unexpected turnout left the couple pleasantly surprised, grateful to share the special moment with their extended ferry family.
The ceremony, held during a shift change in Prince Rupert, was described as “short and sweet” and stress-free. Sankey expressed happiness at the completion she felt in being married to Fox, with their first child expected in May. The couple’s love story, which began amidst the daily grind of ferry work, culminated in a heartwarming celebration surrounded by their supportive colleagues.
