City council in Windsor is set to convene a special meeting on Monday morning, welcoming the city’s elected representatives at the federal and provincial levels. This unique gathering will provide an opportunity for the city’s councillors to engage with the two Members of Parliament and two Members of Provincial Parliament representing Windsor. The distinguished attendees include Conservative MP Kathy Borrelli for Windsor-Tecumseh-Lakeshore, Conservative MP Harb Gill for Windsor West, Conservative MPP Andrew Dowie for Windsor-Tecumseh, and NDP MPP Lisa Gretzky for Windsor West.
Scheduled to commence at 8 a.m., the meeting is expected to conclude by 9:30 a.m., allowing council members to adjourn before their regular session. Each representative will deliver an opening statement before the meeting transitions into a roundtable discussion. The dialogue is anticipated to cover various topics where the city council has expressed concerns regarding interactions with higher government levels.
Among the issues on the agenda are letters penned by the council to the Ontario government opposing legislation mandating provincial approval for active transportation projects, seeking inclusion in a mandatory treatment program pilot initiative, and requesting a review of service delivery responsibilities. Additionally, requests have been made to the federal government for updates on the establishment of a National Urban Park in Windsor, facilitation of “Buy Canadian” procurement processes, and reassessment of cases involving Afghanistan veterans eligible for a Victoria Cross decoration.
Although the meeting is open to the public, it will not be streamed live. The session is planned to take place at City Hall in room 204, a spacious conference venue commonly utilized for budget committee discussions. While attendance is permitted, the occupancy limit for the space remains unspecified.
Following the conclusion of the meeting, the City of Windsor uploaded a recording of the session online for public access.
