Mike O’Shea, a prominent figure in the CFL, is set to continue his role as the head coach of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, as confirmed by the team on Friday. With an impressive track record including two CFL Coach of the Year titles and six Grey Cup victories, O’Shea will be embarking on his 12th season at the helm of the Bombers in 2026.
Under O’Shea’s leadership, the Blue Bombers have enjoyed a remarkable nine-season playoff streak and reached the Grey Cup finals for five consecutive years from 2019 to 2024, clinching the championship in the first two appearances. The decision for O’Shea’s return comes at a crucial time with the Toronto Argonauts currently in search of a new head coach following Ryan Dinwiddie’s departure to assume the dual role of coach and general manager for the Ottawa Redblacks.
Hailing from North Bay, Ontario, O’Shea has a strong connection to the Argonauts, having served as a linebacker for the team from 1996 to 1999 and 2001 to 2008. He then transitioned to the role of Toronto’s special teams coordinator from 2010 to 2013 before taking on the head coaching position with the Blue Bombers.
In addition to O’Shea’s contract extension, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers also confirmed the return of general manager Kyle Walters for the upcoming season. This decision ensures continuity and stability within the team’s leadership as they prepare for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead in the CFL.
