Israel has transferred the bodies of 15 Palestinians after Hamas returned the remains of an Israeli hostage. The International Committee of the Red Cross facilitated the transfer to Gaza. Two hostages, one Israeli and one Thai national, are still believed to be in Gaza, with Hamas committing to returning them as part of the agreement.

Mediators from Turkey, Qatar, and Egypt convened in Cairo to discuss the next phase of the ceasefire. Plans include deploying an armed International Stabilization Force (ISF) and establishing an international governing body for Gaza to oversee reconstruction efforts. Israel’s key requirement is the disarmament of Hamas, which the ISF will be tasked with ensuring. Indonesia has pledged to contribute 20,000 peacekeepers to the ISF.

Many uncertainties surround the implementation timeline of the ceasefire plan, despite both sides being accused of violations. Israel has agreed to return 15 Palestinian bodies for each recovered hostage, with 345 Palestinian bodies already returned, as reported by the Gaza Health Ministry. Only 99 of the bodies have been identified due to the lack of DNA testing kits in Gaza.

Dror Or, the latest hostage returned by Palestinian militants, was mourned in Israel. He and his wife were killed during an attack on their community in 2023, while their children were rescued and later released in a hostage deal. Or was remembered as a devoted father, skilled cheesemaker, and a multi-talented individual.

A Palestinian man was killed by Israeli fire in central Gaza, while Israeli troops targeted militants in Rafah, resulting in casualties. Since the ceasefire, significant casualties have been reported on both sides, with Palestinians facing displacement and humanitarian challenges. In a separate incident, Israeli military operations in the West Bank, particularly in Tubas, have raised concerns and sparked criticism from human rights organizations.

Israel’s actions in the West Bank have been met with accusations of war crimes, with ongoing tension and displacement affecting the Palestinian population. The situation remains volatile despite efforts to maintain the ceasefire and address the complex challenges in the region.
