A man aged 45 from Inuvik, N.W.T. is facing charges in relation to the recent death of a woman in the community. The RCMP announced on Tuesday that Kenneth Campbell has been charged with second-degree murder.

Authorities were alerted last Thursday around 9:30 p.m. about a fatal incident at a business on Industrial Road. Following the report, a 38-year-old woman was rushed to the hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

The RCMP’s investigation suggests the incident is a result of intimate-partner violence and has been classified as a femicide, denoting the deliberate killing of women or girls, typically by men.

Kenneth Campbell is presently detained in Yellowknife and is set to appear in court on Tuesday afternoon.
