Canadian triathlete Sophia Howell achieved a significant milestone on Sunday by clinching a spot on the podium at the World Triathlon Cup for the first time. Howell, hailing from Airdrie, Alberta, impressed with a third-place finish in the sprint-distance event held in San Pedro de la Paz, Chile. Completing the 750-meter swim, 20-kilometer bike ride, and five-kilometer run in a commendable time of one hour, one minute, and 12 seconds, the 23-year-old expressed her excitement, stating that she was pleasantly surprised and thrilled with her performance.

Howell finished just three seconds behind Jeanne Lehair from Luxembourg, who secured second place, and nine seconds behind the race champion, Miriam Casillas Garcia of Spain. Emy Legault from L’Ile Perrot, Quebec, also participated in the event and finished in 12th place. In the men’s competition, Martin Sobey from Charlottetown emerged as the top Canadian finisher, coming in 14th overall.
