Twelve new cottages are set to be constructed alongside eight existing ones at Dalvay by the Sea. D.P. Murphy, the company overseeing Dalvay By the Sea, in collaboration with Parks Canada, has been in talks about this development for several months. The addition of these cottages aims to enable year-round use, with the goal of extending the tourism season.

In a recent public information session hosted by Parks Canada, attendees had the opportunity to gain insights into the upcoming project. Danny Cusack, the realty adviser for Parks Canada, highlighted the shared objectives between Parks Canada and the holding company. The focus is on enhancing the self-sustainability of Dalvay by the Sea and boosting revenue, which is intended to be reinvested back into the hotel.

According to Cusack, the proposed twelve cottages are envisioned to attract more visitors to the area while aligning with the current utilization of the property for tourism purposes. The development will not exceed the land area outlined in D.P. Murphy’s existing lease agreement.

Cullen Mullally, legal counsel for D.P. Murphy, mentioned that extensive assessments, consultations with Indigenous communities, and archaeological studies have been completed to advance the project. The cottages will be constructed in a manner that allows for their removal if necessary, a feature that both Parks Canada and D.P. Murphy were keen on incorporating. The next phase involves applying for the requisite permits to move forward.

Mullally expressed optimism about commencing construction on certain groundwork in the upcoming month, with plans to continue the construction post-winter, subject to weather conditions.
