The Seattle Mariners have officially sealed a lucrative five-year, $92.5 million deal with first baseman Josh Naylor. The agreement includes a $6.5 million signing bonus, to be paid within 120 days of approval by the commissioner’s office, along with escalating salaries of $10 million for the upcoming season, $16 million in 2027, $18 million in 2028, $20 million in 2029, and $22 million in 2030.

Naylor, a 28-year-old native of Mississauga, Ont., recently became a free agent after a successful season where the Mariners reached the American League Championship Series. Following the team’s postseason run, President of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto emphasized the significance of re-signing Naylor, whom they acquired from the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Expressing his satisfaction with the deal, Dipoto stated, “Ensuring that Josh remains a Mariner for the long haul was a priority for us. Josh’s intelligence, intensity, toughness, and competitiveness show up every day. He’s simply a winner.”

The Mariners’ commitment to Naylor marks their third-largest contract, following agreements with second baseman Robinson Cano and pitcher Robbie Ray. Manager Dan Wilson praised Naylor for his impactful presence both on and off the field during his brief tenure with the team.

In his 54 games with the Mariners, Naylor boasted a .299 batting average with nine home runs, 33 RBIs, and 19 stolen bases. His postseason performance was equally impressive, hitting .340 with three home runs, five RBIs, and two stolen bases in 12 games.

Looking ahead to the future, Naylor expressed his enthusiasm about rejoining the Mariners, citing the warm welcome he received from the organization, teammates, and fans. He commended the Seattle fanbase, emphasizing their unwavering support, and expressed his eagerness to continue contributing to the team’s quest for a championship.
