Katy Perry has been desperately trying to get her fans back onside after being slammed for her lacklustre performance while on her Lifetimes Tour. The 40 year old mum of one has been struggling to sell tickets for her US shows that start in two weeks time in Houston, Texas.
The singer, who has been dating actor Orlando Bloom since 2016, was at the centre of fans’ frustration as they blasted her for her awkward choreography while on stage in Mexico City.
But Katy has now explained that she was feeling unwell and also dealing with the high altitude of Mexico City, which is 7,000 feet above sea level.
Taking to Instagram, Katy posted a backstage picture of her dressed in costume. She explained to fans: “Struggling for the past few things with my voice, having a flu-cold thing.”
This came after those who saw the show rushed to social media to voice their complaints. One person wrote: “Not the mom moves.”
Another said: “Maybe she should have spent less time in space and more time rehearsing lmao.” Continuing with the sentiment by fans, a third person commented: “my cat when she’s cleaning herself.” Meanwhile a fourth added: “straight up soulless vessel.”
She was also compared to Taylor Swift as another took to X and wrote: “Girl wtf is this, even Taylor dances better than this.” And it didn’t appear to get any better as another person said: “Please retire gracefully.. dont do that to yourself.”
Katy is set to complete a number of tour dates across North America in support of her latest studio album, 143 which was slated by critics on its release last September.
Rows of seats remain available at many venues, according to Ticketmaster. Those close to the production of the tour have said Katy hoped to mirror the success of Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour.
But according to reports, it looks as though her decision to jump on board Amazon chief Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin flight to space could be a contributing factor for a lack of ticket sales.
Dates at venues in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Denver and Colorado are still available and tickets worth in excess of $50 remain on offer for the first US date in Houston on May 7.
And again, ticket sales for her show in Oklahoma on May 9 are low, leaving rows and rows of empty seats. It remains unknown how many VIP packages have been sold but there appears to be tickets available for purchase.
A source told the Daily Mail: “There were already concerns about poor ticket sales even before Blue Origin,. They were pretty dismal. Katy truly believed her tour would take off like Taylor’s.”
They added: “Some higher-ups at Live Nation were sceptical from the beginning. There are talks about what to do if the venues don’t fill up further.”
