Tyson Fury issues brutal four-word snub of Chris Eubank Jr vs Conor Benn

Must read

Tyson Fury has claimed he does not watch anymore after being asked for his prediction for Chris Eubank Jr’s fight with Conor Benn. Fury announced his retirement from the sport in January, shortly after he was beaten by heavyweight rival Oleksandr Usyk for a second time.

The Gypsy King has remained largely out of the spotlight since retiring and he has refused to make a prediction for the clash between Eubank Jr and Benn when asked for his thoughts on the fight by Ring Magazine.

In response to the question, Fury simply said: “dont watch boxing anymore”. Fury was also asked for a prediction by TNT Sports last year and replied: “It’s a weight category thing, if it’s at 10.5 stone it’s going to be Conor Benn, if it’s at middleweight then probably Chris Eubank Jr.”

The fight is taking place at middleweight, with Benn moving up two weight classes, and there has already been controversy after Eubank Jr was fined £375,000 for missing weight by just 0.05lb.

A rehydration clause was also included in the contract which meant Eubank Jr would receive another fine if he weighed more than 10lb heavier the day of the fight, but the 35-year-old successfully weighed in under the limit.

“If they’re going to take half a million (US dollars) off me for being 0.05lb off the limit, then that’s the sort of people Eddie Hearn, Matchroom and Conor Benn are,” Eubank Jr said after the ceremonial weigh-ins.

“At the end of the day, weight has no relevance to what will happen tomorrow night. I’m going to go out there and stop this guy.

“The rehydration clause is still in place, so I need to watch what I eat and drink, but all of these things are set up to distract me and get me off track and none of it will work.

“He’s in for a hell of a surprise, he thinks he is going to go out there and hop, skip and [land] a right hand as he says. But he has no idea the pain that is in store for him tomorrow night.”

Benn, meanwhile, said: “It’s an expensive price for him to pay, isn’t it? He’s disciplined and he should’ve made the weight. He’s made this weight his whole career. He was expecting some sympathy, but he isn’t getting any sympathy from around here.”

Eubank Jr and Benn are facing off more than 30 years after their fathers, Chris Eubank Sr and Nigel Benn, fought twice in 1990 and 1993. Eubank Sr won the first fight after stopping Benn in the ninth round. However, the rematch ended in a draw and the pair never fought again.
