Carley Fortune, a well-known romance writer, has revealed that her sixth novel, “Only in Summer,” is scheduled for release on May 18, 2027. The book revisits the familiar setting of Barry’s Bay, Ontario, where Fortune’s previous works, “Every Summer After” and “One Golden Summer,” were also based. Fortune shared in a newsletter that she fulfilled her dream of owning a cottage near Barry’s Bay, following the sale of her family’s lakefront property.
In “Only in Summer,” the protagonist Eleanor Florek, known as Ellie, shares Ellie’s dream of owning property in Barry’s Bay. Ellie, the cousin of Charlie and Sam from Fortune’s other Barry’s Bay tales, grows up in the town and aspires to purchase her own place there. However, her plans are disrupted when a neighboring house is demolished to make way for a grand mansion, leaving Ellie surprised. While the full storyline remains a mystery, readers can anticipate a captivating romance unfolding in the lakeside backdrop.
Fortune, residing in Toronto, has a background in writing and editing for prominent publications like Refinery29, The Globe and Mail, Chatelaine, and Toronto Life. Her previous books include “Our Perfect Storm,” “One Golden Summer,” “Every Summer After,” “This Summer Will Be Different,” and “Meet Me at the Lake.” “Meet Me at the Lake” was a standout in the 2024 edition of Canada Reads, championed by fashion influencer Mirian Njoh, marking the first romance novel to feature on the show.
“Every Summer After” was adapted into the Amazon Prime Video series “Every Year After,” which received a second-season renewal based on “One Golden Summer.” Additionally, Netflix Canada is in the process of adapting “This Summer Will Be Different” into a 10-episode series.
