RCMP officials in Prince Edward Island are currently investigating a series of three suspicious fires that occurred in the Miscouche area of Prince County within the last four days. Cpl. Gavin Moore, the RCMP’s media spokesperson, disclosed that the most recent fire took place on Tuesday around 10:20 p.m. Emergency responders were summoned to a cabin fire in a wooded section just west of Summerside.
This incident followed two other fires on Sunday. The initial fire was reported at approximately 2:37 a.m., involving burning tires along Route 122. Shortly thereafter, another fire broke out, this time engulfing an abandoned house along Route 2, which was already ablaze upon the arrival of firefighters.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported in any of the fire occurrences, but the structures involved were completely destroyed. Moore emphasized that while no individuals were at risk, these incidents strained fire and emergency services resources, potentially impacting response to other urgent calls.
The officer highlighted the prevalence of abandoned home fires in Prince Edward Island’s history, underscoring the importance of vigilance among residents. He urged Islanders to remain alert and report any suspicious activities to law enforcement promptly.
Individuals with relevant information regarding these fires are encouraged to contact Prince District RCMP at 902-436-9300 or provide anonymous tips to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
